Live Resolute
Resolutions
At the start of every year, some people think about resolutions
45% of Americans make NY resolutions while on 23% actually keep them
According to the survey, just under 1 in 10 people (8%) said their resolutions lasted a month, 21.9% reported two months, 22.2% reported three months and 13.1% said their resolutions lasted four months. Only 1% said they lasted for 11 or 12 months.
January 12 is usually the date that most people quit or give up
Quitter’s Day!
Instead of focusing on making resolutions, can we think about challenging ourselves to be Resolute
Resolute:,Admirably purposeful, determined, and unwavering
We are not called to make resolutions but we are called to be resolute
The Apostle Paul writes a letter to the church at Phillipi and he encourages them to be resolute
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. Philippians 3:12-15
Let’s break this down and talk about how can we forget what is behind?
Don’t live in the mistakes and regrets of yesterday
But also at the same time strain towards what is ahead
Luke 9:62
Press on to take hold of what Christ took hold of me
We are not being resolute in our own strength but in that of what Christ has done for us
We are not strong enough to stick with it on our own but we are called to live admirably purposeful lives
I love the last part of this section of Scripture
And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.
How do we live resolute lives?
Keep moving forward and ask God for help
- Recognize the battle
- Remember God’s Truth
- Redirect your thoughts
I know you may be thinking, I have tried that a hundred times. But I want to ask you, have you invited God to help you? When our thoughts aren’t true, we need to ask God to redirect them.
And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. Philippians 3:15
We will think differently than we should but we need to remember that when we think differently than we should, God will make it clear to us.
