How do I learn to trust God?

Season #4

Keep working even if you don’t see the result yet

This can be in a calling, a marriage, a friendship, a job

How do we keep working even when we are discouraged?

We have to be willing to change our definition of success

How would God see success in the marriage, friendship, job, etc

'Cast your bread on the surface of the waters, for you will find it after many days. Divide your portion to seven, or even to eight, for you do not know what misfortune may occur on the earth. If the clouds are full, they pour out rain upon the earth; and whether a tree falls toward the south or toward the north, wherever the tree falls, there it lies. He who watches the wind will not sow and he who looks at the clouds will not reap. Just as you do not know the path of the wind and how bones are formed in the womb of the pregnant woman, so you do not know the activity of God who makes all things. Sow your seed in the morning and do not be idle in the evening, for you do not know whether morning or evening sowing will succeed, or whether both of them alike will be good. '

Ecclesiastes 11:1-6

There are a few different interpretations of the above text.

Verse 1 has been taught as alms giving **This probably refers to a shipping venture that required great patience for the return of the investment. The idea is that it was wise and good to work for a return that could not be immediately seen.

  1. “The allusion is to the element of trust in much ancient business. Ships on commercial voyages might be long delayed before any profit resulted.” (Eaton)

Verse 1 has been taught as don’t put all your eggs in one basket

Genesis 38:1-9 Jacob dividing his family and stuff before meeting Esau

Verse 1 Uncertainty is real and precautions can’t help you

No matter your interpretation, I think the crown jewel of this passage comes in verse 5

So you do not know the activity of God who makes all things

It boils down to trust

How do we lean into trusting God?

Savor Moment

Make this for someone you love and trust. Share with them you are struggling to trust God and ask them to pray for you
