Ephesians Outline
Episode 2
Chapters 1 and 2
Paul introduces himself and calls his audience saints
We need to keep in mind this entire letter is written to ‘saints’
This word means:
devout, holy one, consecrated to the service of God, godly, dedicated
No matter what we do or how we feel, we are ‘saints’ and the Apostle Paul goes on to tell us why we are saints:
In Him, that is in Christ
Chosen
Adopted
Blessed
Redeemed
Forgiven
Sealed with the Holy Spirit
Chapter 2
Starts off reminding us of where we came from
dead in our trespasses
living in the passion of our flesh
children of wrath
But God being rich in mercy verse 4
What does that mean?
To show kindness or concern for someone in serious need
Before Christ saved us, we were all in serious need
His rich mercy is shown to us in Romans 2:4 and Titus 3:5
And then look at Eph 2:7
Rich is an abundance of possessions exceeding the norm of a particular society
When used in relation to humans, it is usually in a negative connotation
Such as Mark 4:19 or James 5:2
But in contrast to us, God’s richness only brings about mercy for us
Savor Moment:
Pause, Pray and Pen
Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you as you read chapters 1-2.
As you read, underline, highlight or write down any word or phrase that stands out to you. Ask the Holy Spirit to illuminate that Truth to you.
This is a long process. It takes time and focused attention to begin to grasp the Truth of these chapters.
So the recipe this week, is long and takes time and attention. It is totally worth the work.
